Alameda Health System’s (AHS) three emergency departments at Highland, Alameda and San Leandro Hospitals have received the prestigious Quest for Zero Quality Award from BETA Healthcare Group. The honor underscores AHS’ strong commitment to delivering safe, high-quality emergency care while continuously working to reduce risk and improve outcomes for all patients.
“The Quest for Zero Award is a testament to the incredible work our emergency department teams do every day,” said Charlotte Wills, MD, chair of emergency medicine. “We serve a diverse and often medically complex patient population, and programs like Quest for Zero help ensure we are always learning, always improving and always putting patient safety first.”
Quest for Zero is a risk reduction program designed to advance patient safety by educating providers and enhancing their knowledge and judgment in high-risk conditions commonly seen in the emergency department. The program also incorporates process improvements and targeted strategies to elevate care across AHS emergency departments.
Its validation process relies on ongoing collaboration among nurses, physicians, quality teams and leadership, making patient safety not just a goal, but a daily practice woven into AHS’ culture of care.
This recognition places AHS among a select group of health systems that have demonstrated leadership and accountability in reducing risk and improving emergency care outcomes, an achievement worth celebrating.
Congratulations to our emergency departments!
