David Cox

David Cox, a 30-year health care veteran, joined Alameda Health System (AHS) as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in 2014. He oversees all of the financial functions throughout AHS including the annual operating and capital budgetary planning process, payroll, project financing, strategic planning and external relations.
 
Mr. Cox helps position AHS as a leader in the implementation of health care reform. Working directly with the system’s leadership and Board of Directors, he assists with business development and building an integrated delivery system including new insurance products and capitation.
 
He previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Marin General Hospital and Marin Healthcare District, where he transitioned the hospital out of the Sutter system, brought Sonoma Valley and Palm Drive Hospitals into the system as affiliates and led a $10 million operational improvement program with MedAssets. Prior to that role, Mr. Cox developed a successful regional women’s health program at St. Mary’s Health System in Waterbury, Conneticut, as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer.
 
At Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont, Mr. Cox acted as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer and achieved solid profitability within 18 months at a previously struggling academic medical center. Additionally, he served as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Sutter Health in Sacramento, California, and played a key role in the development of the system. Mr. Cox also served as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
 
Over his career, he has earned numerous accolades including North Bay Business Journal’s CFO of the Year in 2011, and Becker’s List of Healthcare Systems CFOs to Know 2012-2015. He also served as Commissioner of the Partnership Health Plan Board, the BETA Healthcare Board of Directors, and was a member of the Senior Care Action Network’s (SCAN) Provider Integration Committee.

Mr. Cox received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.
